FOOT AND ANKLE INJURIES in Austin, TX

Taking care of your feet is important because when your feet or ankles are injured, it can affect your daily life and affect your ability to feel comfortable participating in activities. It’s important to know what kind of foot and ankle injuries there are and how they can be treated so that you can live the best quality life and enjoy all the things you love doing on your feet.

Types of Foot and Ankle Injuries and Their Treatments

There are different causes of common foot and ankle injuries and it’s important that you understand what the different injuries are and how to spot the symptoms. The common types of foot and ankle injuries include:

  • Achilles Tendonitis- The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the body and connects the two primary muscles in the calf to the bone in the heel. This tendon is very easily susceptible to inflammation when it’s overused. You may notice it normally comes on after repeated inflammation occurs and you can possibly hear a loud popping noise, indicating that the Achilles tendon has been ruptured. Achilles tendonitis is usually treated with physical therapy and tendonitis ankle treatment.
  • Ankle Sprain- When the ligaments in the ankles have been stretched or torn, a sprain can occur and can cause the joint to move too far. Most sprains are minor and can be healed with rest and ice. It’s important to talk to your doctor after a sprain to make sure that the sprain isn’t severe and can be healed over time.
  • Stress Fracture- With repetitive impact, wear and tear can be too much on the foot and can cause a fracture in the bones. You’ll need to see your doctor immediately after a fracture so they can make sure the bone is properly set and will heal correctly.
  • Plantar Fasciitis- This is also known as heel pain. When you spend a lot of time on your feet, you can experience periods of stiffness and soreness after sitting for long periods of time. The best way to treat plantar fasciitis is with rest, ice, and stretching exercises.
